Worldcoin Transforms into “World”
On October 17, Worldcoin announced its rebranding to simply “World,” coupled with the introduction of new features aimed at enhancing its identity verification platform.
New Features and Enhancements
- World has introduced improved biometric identification through the second-generation device, the Orb.
- The launch includes the new World ID 3.0, facilitating advanced identity verification globally.
Co-founders Sam Altman and Alex Blania revealed the rebranding during a notable event in San Francisco, illustrating a commitment to extending their ‘proof-of-humanity’ technology to a broader audience.
Introducing the Next-Gen Orb
The updated Orb is powered by NVIDIA’s advanced Jetson chipset, significantly boosting AI performance—reportedly up to five times faster than its predecessor. This upgrade promises more efficient and accurate biometric identification.
World ID 3.0 Launch
The enhancements do not end with the Orb; World is rolling out the new World ID 3.0 system. This version offers improved capabilities for identity verification, enabling holders of NFC-enabled passports to authenticate their identity seamlessly via their devices.

As per the official announcement, users who verify their identity using a valid passport can start claiming the native cryptocurrency WLD before fully completing their verification via the Orb.
The Launch of World Chain
October 17 marked another milestone with the launch of World Chain’s mainnet, which is a layer-2 blockchain network launched by the World Foundation earlier in the year. As of the announcement, around 15 million users have transitioned or are in the process of migrating to World Chain.
Key Features of World Chain
World Chain emphasizes prioritizing human transactions and activities over automated bots, launching with support from major crypto platforms, including Dune, Uniswap, Optimism, Alchemy, Safe, and Etherscan.
