Survey Reveals Institutional Investors’ Growing Interest in Crypto
A recent survey conducted in January at the peak of Bitcoin’s all-time high of $109,000 sheds light on institutional investors’ increasing appetite for digital assets. The research, which involved 352 institutional decision-makers and was carried out by Coinbase and EY-Parthenon, provides valuable insights into the future of the crypto market.
Key Findings from the Survey:
- 83% of institutional investors are looking to expand their crypto exposure in 2025.
- 59% of investors plan to allocate over 5% of their assets under management to digital assets.
- More than three-quarters of surveyed investors anticipate increasing their allocations to digital assets in 2025.
Growing Interest in Stablecoins and DeFi
The survey also highlights the increasing interest in stablecoins and decentralized finance (DeFi) among institutional investors. Key findings include:
Stablecoins:
- 84% of institutions are already using or planning to use stablecoins in 2025.
- 75% intend to invest in some form of tokenization by 2026.
DeFi:
- Expected rise in DeFi engagement from 24% to 75% over the next two years.
- Main barriers to DeFi adoption include regulatory concerns (57%), compliance issues (55%), and lack of internal knowledge (51%).

Importance of Regulatory Clarity
Regulation is seen as both an opportunity and a risk by institutional investors in the crypto market. The survey underscores the significance of regulatory clarity in shaping the market’s future:
- Regulation is identified as the biggest opportunity and risk for the crypto market in 2025.
- Clarity around custody, tax treatment, and stablecoin usage could attract new market participants and boost activity.
The positive actions taken by regulatory bodies globally are expected to further fuel interest in digital assets, according to the survey’s researchers.
Despite a recent decline in crypto prices, institutional investors remain optimistic about the future of digital assets. With Bitcoin trading around $83,000, the industry continues to evolve, driven by growing institutional interest and regulatory developments.
