BNB Chain Launches Good Will Alliance to Combat Malicious MEV Practices
BNB Chain has recently launched the Good Will Alliance as a response to the rise of malicious maximal extractable value (MEV) practices, particularly focusing on sandwich attacks. This initiative aims to bring together infrastructure builders, validators, and the wider community to promote ethical standards, best practices, and enhanced security within the BNB ecosystem.
Targeting Sandwich Attacks
- Sandwich attacks, a common form of malicious MEV, have caused significant losses for retail traders on Binance Smart Chain (BSC).
- The alliance’s initial efforts are concentrated on combating sandwich attacks through advanced filtering mechanisms.
Specialized Filters Deployed
Infrastructure providers like BlockRazor and 48 Club have already implemented specialized sandwich attack filters in their block-building processes, setting a precedent for other alliance participants. The alliance has also created a GitHub repository listing compliant builders, urging BSC validators to only accept block bids from this verified group.
Enhancing Security Measures
The alliance’s strategy involves defining clearer criteria for identifying sandwich attacks, developing tools to detect malicious MEV behavior, and fostering community collaboration to strengthen on-chain security. These efforts will be further refined through governance processes, BNB Evolution Proposals (BEPs), and regular codebase updates to promote long-term network fairness.
Community Endorsement
The initiative has garnered strong community support, as demonstrated by a DAO proposal that received 79% approval on February 14. The proposal emphasizes the importance of community-driven measures, such as penalties for malicious builders, exclusion of irresponsible validators, and the adoption of safer RPC nodes and MEV-protected wallets.
Future Expansion
The Good Will Alliance plans to expand its reach by welcoming new members and introducing more community-oriented security projects throughout 2025.
