The first open alpha playtest for the co-op looter shooter, Riftstorm, is set to run from October 16th at 7 PM PT until October 30th at 7 PM PT. Players can participate for free by downloading the demo on Steam.
Introduction to Riftstorm
Riftstorm is an action RPG looter shooter designed for cooperative gameplay. It immerses players in a mysterious landscape called the Occultical. As agents known as Mythic Protocol Weavers, players cooperate to fend off mythic threats invading from various universes. Team up with up to two friends in an exhilarating 3-player isometric gameplay experience, featuring a range of loot-filled missions.
Character Choices and Customization
Players can select from a variety of distinct Weavers, each equipped with unique skills and weapons tailored to different playstyles. The game allows for extensive weapon customization, where players can choose a primary and secondary weapon from an assortment of ranged firearms. As players progress through missions, they can unlock upgrades that enhance their character builds.
Highlights of Riftstorm’s Alpha Playtest 1
This open alpha stage introduces exciting updates for both new and returning players who have participated in previous test phases. Major enhancements are in place, offering a chance to earn exclusive rewards and ecosystem points.
New Character Additions
The latest playtest enriches the experience with two new Weavers, Rook and Thistle. Rook serves as a versatile character proficient in dealing single-target stuns using spells, grenades, and mines. Conversely, Thistle wields a floating occult tome to unleash devastating spells against groups of mythics. These additions expand the playable character pool to six.
Enhanced Dungeon System
The Dungeon System has received notable upgrades, including improved mission variety and visual enhancements. Dungeon System 2.0 allows players to dive into new narrative arcs with larger, more richly detailed maps. Enhanced graphics, new lighting systems, and a variety of biomes create a more immersive environment. Players can expect diverse in-dungeon actions to keep the gameplay fresh and exciting.
Weapon Customization and Crafting Enhancements
With the introduction of Weapon Loop 0.5, players can now benefit from a revamped arsenal along with crafting capabilities. This update provides systems, materials, and blueprints that let players dismantle weapons for Scrap, which can be utilized to craft new weapons via the Dataseed system or engage in random crafting for unexpected results.
Potential Rewards in Riftstorm Alpha Playtest 1
By completing missions in this playtest, players can earn exclusive skins and rewards that are available solely during this period. While it’s currently uncertain whether these assets can be minted into NFTs or will remain in-game collectibles, it’s confirmed that these rewards link to the broader ecosystem established by Confliction Labs. This includes a platform known as the Portal, through which players can gain access to exclusive rewards and content.
Joining the Portal grants players access to the Mythic Protocol, which features a dashboard for various ecosystem tasks that can be completed for Protocol Points. These points can be traded for various future rewards, including exclusive Weaver skins and in-game treasures.
Future Integration of Blockchain Technology
The current alpha demo does not incorporate blockchain technology, as stated in the official FAQ. However, Riftstorm plans to implement its own web3 technology to monitor player actions and their effects on the game world, while enabling asset ownership and wrap/unwrap mechanics. Players’ decisions will shape the narrative of the Occultical universe, with significant events tracked on-chain for a transparent and scalable world-building experience. The wrap/unwrap mechanics will allow players to convert in-game items into NFTs or revert them back to playable assets.
