Hut 8, a prominent name in energy infrastructure and Bitcoin mining, has officially launched its GPU-as-a-service platform.
This deployment, detailed in a Hut 8 press release on September 26, features an impressive cluster of HPE supercomputers, all powered by 1,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. This significant launch follows a strategic partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and IT firm AdvizeX.
Ambitious AI Initiatives from Hut 8
According to the press release, Hut 8’s subsidiary, Highrise AI, will oversee the GPU-as-a-service operation, established under a five-year agreement involving revenue sharing and infrastructure investments.
This initiative represents a strategic diversification of Hut 8’s operations, integrating AI, Bitcoin mining, and cloud computing into a cohesive service model.
“In line with our commitment to careful capital management, we believe that a well-structured AI compute business will enhance our financial health and strategic positioning, fostering revenue growth and long-term value creation,” stated Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8.
Introduction of Next-Gen Mining Technology
The launch of Hut 8’s GPU-as-a-service coincided with the recent announcement of their new U3S21EXPH ASIC miner, which features direct liquid-to-chip (DLC) cooling technology.
In collaboration with innovative crypto mining chip producer BITMAIN, Hut 8 is expected to deploy this new ASIC model by Q2 2025, targeting an impressive 15 exahashes per second in hosting deployment.
This initial rollout will enhance Hut 8’s hashrate by approximately 81%, with expectations of achieving up to 20 EH/s through self-mining efforts.
