- Privado ID has partnered with Telefonica Tech to enhance the adoption of privacy-centric digital identities within the EU.
- This collaboration aligns with the EU’s impending elDAS2 regulation focused on digital identity.
Telefonica Tech, the digital division of the multinational telecommunications company, Telefónica Group, is joining forces with Privado ID to drive forward the integration of privacy technologies and digital identity within the European Union.
Privado ID—previously known as Polygon ID—plans to utilize TrustOS, a managed blockchain service provided by Telefonica Tech, to enhance its offerings related to verifiable credentials, as announced in a press release.
“We are excited to integrate Privado ID technology within our TrustOS platform to promote compliance with eIDAS2 regulations through advanced digital identity solutions,” stated José Luis Núñez, global head of blockchain and web3 at Telefonica Tech.
Exploring the European Digital Identity Landscape
This strategic partnership emerges just as the European Union gears up for the European Digital Identity Regulation, commonly referred to as elDAS2. This regulation outlines new mandates for EU nations to create and implement a Digital ID Wallet for their citizens.
The elDAS2 initiative aims to establish a unified framework that enables EU citizens and residents to benefit from electronic identification while encouraging compliant identity solution adoption—a sector that both Telefonica Tech and Privado ID are actively targeting with their collaboration.
“Empowering corporations to seamlessly integrate cutting-edge technologies, such as our advanced zero-knowledge proof-based digital identity platform, is essential for the widespread acceptance of self-sovereign identity,” remarked David Schwartz, CEO of Privado ID.
Potential applications for this partnership include:
- Accreditation processes
- Digital national identity cards
- E-signature solutions
- Privacy-focused loyalty programs
